Official Measurement at Our House

This big, black crow must weigh 8 to 10 lbs. All the bigger birds prefer the dry dog food while the little birds like the bread crumbs.

My snow measurement in the backyard is 6 1/2 inches.

Scout doesn't concern himself with the harsh weather outside. He's catching some rays for the few minutes the sun shone today.

Annie does her business and is heading back to the garage.

Just a path to the mailbox.

Dad heading back to the house.

Underneath All That Snow..

The first picture was taken Wednesday as I came into our neighborhood -- the day before the current winter storm hit. Wicked looking, yet beautiful, clouds.
The second picture shows what is actually underneath all that snow -- about 3/4" to 1" of ice.
The rest of the pictures were taken between noon and 1pm today. Dad went out to clean (chisel) the ice off the windows of his car, and I donned my new coat & boots and walked all around the house and up & down the street taking pictures.
When I woke from my 'long winter's nap' at 3:30, it was snowing big time. It's still snowing now (6:30 pm), & I'd say we have at least 6".
The bird pictures? Dad has been feeding them. I heated up some stale brown-&-serve rolls and crumpled them up for them. I'd say I did my good deed for local audubon society today.
We only lost our electric for about an hour early yesterday evening. Just long enough for me to get candles in each room & my oil lamps burning.
Of course, a snow day spent inside makes me cook & bake more. This morning I made sausage & scrambled eggs. I bought the eggs from a student who raises chickens. I also make a double recipe of meatloaf. I've got beans soaking for bean soup tomorrow. I reorganized my refrigerator freezer & found all sorts of stuff I'd forgotten. I think I'm thawing some cookie dough, at least I hope so!

Mr. Robin Red Breast

This morning we had a male robin in our backyard, along with a bluejay & a female robin. Of course, I had to take this picture through the kitchen window.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Catoosa

We haven't gone to Sugar's through 'dysfunction junction' in so long, we hadn't seen the Hard Rock sign. Don't know how long it's been up.

You Never Know What You'll Bring Home

Saw a Macy's ad for a $19.99 pressure cooker yesterday morning in the newspaper. So after eating lunch at B's store, off I went to the mall. After buying it I wandered over to the furniture department & spotted this chair. The color is actually a green, the color of our current carpet. I wanted something less than $100 for our bedroom to replace this lounge/game chair (?). Have only had this thing two months, but to say I dislike it is putting it mildly. Dad has been using it to watch TV & loves it. It sits right down on the floor, has no handles to move it around, & is in the way all the time. A sales person brought the new chair down to meet me at one of the outside doors. It fit perfectly in my backseat. Yea! I didn't try the trunk because it was full of all my recyclables - glass, plastic, aluminum, & metal cans. On my way to my car I stopped at Penneys to buy the glass slipper that I had already seen on the way in. Four hours & three purchases later, I had cured my 'cabin fever!'

My Glass Slipper

This picture doesn't do it justice, but I found these glass slippers for sale at JCPenney's today. I had to have one. It's filled with hand soap, flowers, & glass beads. I know I don't need another knicknack, but it's so unusual & pretty.
