An Earth Day Treat

Yesterday, Earth Day, my class & I saw THE NEATEST THING! We have some 'school geese' -- several Canadian geese that have nested on top of one of the annex buildings. Well, first thing yesterday morning, each of the six baby geese jumped off the building to their mama waiting on the ground. To the knowledge of everyone around school, this was the first time they'd left their nest. Each one jumped off one by one to the mother goose (I assume it was the mother!). Another goose (the father goose?) stayed on the roof until everyone of them jumped off. The sixth & last one did not want to jump and took forever. The father goose kept nudging it, and it kept backtracking & trying to keep from taking the plunge! Finally, after several minutes all were on the ground, & off they all marched to the creek where there were about four other adult geese were waiting. When that last one jumped, all the kids & I erupted into cheers & clapping! It was quite a sight and quite an experience for all of us humans!!!
